서울시 지역균형발전 추진계획의 일환인 뉴타운 사업의 첫 모델이 되는 은평뉴타운은 SH공사 발주로 현상공모되었다. 은평뉴타운은 지난 30년간 개발제한구역으로 지정되었던 은평구 진관동 일대 약 100여 만평에 추진되는 대규모 도시개발사업이다. 1구역은 북측 약 9만평으로 개발조건은 저층, 저밀도의 환경 친화적인 시가지 조성이다. 주안점은 주생활가로에 커뮤니티 공간을 확보하고, 주상복합건물을 연속 배치하여 가로변에 근린생활시설과 면하며 테마광장을 둠으로써 활기를 불어넣고 활동의 연속성을 확보한 점으로 좋은 평가를 받았다. 또한 연도형 건물의 일률적인 배치가 아니라 저층부에서 내·외부공간이 서로 관통되어 다양한 활동의 가능성과 다양한 크기의 외부공간을 창조해낸 흥미로운 생활가로의 모델을 제시하였다.

This is partial project of Seoul city’s regional balanced growth and is selected as a winner of competition that suggests a proposal of Eunpyeong new town. Eunpyeong new town project is about to renovate 887acre(330ha) of area where has been designated as a non-development restrict for last 30years. Section 1 (74acre) will contain low-rise buildings and low density footprint development that will create eco-friendly town. It is the main idea that secure large community space at the major path and locate resident-business complex buildings continuously along the street so that buildings face neighborhood and able to create dynamic place. This project suggests a model that is not a linear arrangement of building but an interesting proposal that will create diverse open and close spaces through the buildings and space between them.
